  • Hurricanes and earthquakes oh my!

    What started as a pretty blah Tuesday quickly turned around after lunch.  I mean I managed to drop the top half of my english muffin on the floor in the break room at work, dammit!  And of course the AC wasn’t working either.  Yeah I figured today would suck.  Boy was I in for a surprise.

    Turns out hurricane Irene could be headed our way this weekend.  Admittedly I pay little to no attention to the news but while I was listening to the radio on my way to work, the guy mentioned Irene so I decided to see what all the fuss was about.  Turns out, this morning anyway, she looked like she was headed straight for Raleigh this weekend.  WOW!  So Matt and I chatted over IM and decided it might be a good idea to run out at lunch and pick up a few supplies.  I ran to my new fave, Carolina Pottery, to pick up candles and Matt ran to Lowe’s to get batteries and stuff.

    I was actually pretty excited to blog about my first trip to pick up hurricane supplies.  I’ve never actually gone to get supplies for hurricanes even though I went through Opal in Alabama and Erin in Texas.  Granted neither of them were really bad where I was, but Opal did knock the power out for a while.  It was pretty cool to watch the sky turn green when the lightning would strike.  {Apparently the algae from the ocean made the sky look green in the lightning.}

    Anyhoo, right before 2pm I heard a few of my co-workers talking about the building.  I wasn’t really paying attention but the gist was the building moved.  Right around this time Matt IM’s me to ask if we just had an earthquake?  WHAT?!!?  I didn’t feel anything but I knew people around me were talking.  I piped up that my husband was in Durham and he felt it.  This immediately began talks of an earthquake.  I begin to check FB {because you know it doesn’t happen if it isn’t on FB} and sure enough statuses started popping up regarding an earthquake.  Soon we realized epicenter was actually north of Richmond VA.  People all along the east coast were updating their statuses regarding the earthquake.  It was felt as far north as Toronto.  I’m not sure how far south they felt it though.

    Talks of earthquakes continued for a good part of the afternoon.  I just want to say that I am BEYOND bummed that I didn’t feel the stupid earthquake. 🙁  However there was a small earthquake while I was in Alabama and I remember that one so I don’t feel like I completely missed out but still!

  • You light up my house?

    Literally Matt lit up our house this weekend, with lights.  For a while now I’ve wanted to replace the lighting through out the house.  Most of our fixtures were these yucky old gold fixtures.  I knew it wouldn’t take a lot to replace them so once we had more cash back from AMEX Matt ordered our gift cards to Lowes.

    On Saturday we went and picked out our new lights.  We got new outside lights, lights for the foyer, hallway lights and a fan for the guest bedroom.  Oh and let’s not forget the super cute rug I found.  Score!  I found 3 I liked and then showed them to Matt.  Much to my surprise he actually liked (or decided to tolerate my fave ;)) and we added that to our cart full.

    Later that night we managed to hang the foyer light.

    As you can see the one down the hallway mirrors the hanging light.  Well at least as much as it could.

    This is at the top of the stairs on the main floor.  The ones in the upstairs hallway are similar but not quite as large.

    The fan in the guest room.

    Our new outdoor lights.  A HUGE improvement over the old, bug-filled ones.

    Our new rug.  Julio loves it, of course.  I really liked the colors of this one.  You can’t really tell from the pic but it’s got blue and green, brown, beige and tan.  It matches the color scheme I am trying to stick with.  I thought Matt would be like “it’s too florally” but he didn’t.  And he keeps saying he likes it. YAY!

    Needless to say our weekend was pretty busy.  We sent all of Sunday hanging the new lights.  And we had to make another Lowe’s trip because he forgot we had 2 lights upstairs and I forgot about the one at the top of the stairs, so we had the same count and were both WRONG!  HA!

  • Oopsy!

    I just realized my blog theme (the one I installed last night) had an update.  I updated and SHIZZLE everything is completely different.  Needless to say I will doing some more updating tonight.

  • Cha-cha-cha-chaaaannngggeesss!

    That’s right.  I finally got around to changing some things up.  I’m not sure I’m 100% about this current theme but it will work for a little while.  Everything is new and different.  And lucky for me the new blog theme offers TONS of customization options.  I can change almost everything.  So far I’m pretty happy.

    This is not to say I won’t continue to playing around with things.  I guess we will see how it goes.

    Happy Hump Day!

  • Happy Birthday Halle

    Halle turned 11 on Sunday.  Her day was filled with much of the usual, napping, napping, eating, napping, hissing and growling at Julio and lastly napping. 🙂

    The kiddos get a special treat for birthdays.  They get yummy yummy canned food.  Of course, to be fair, they each will get a spoonful however if Julio starts slacking Hal will slowly make her way to his side of the plate to help him finish.  {How nice of her}

    Happy Birthday Halle!  Mommy loves you!

  • I’ve been reading

    For a few months now I’ve been hearing about the Hunger Games series.  It’s a series for teens but a few weeks ago Matt decided to see what they were all about.  A friend read them and told us they were worth reading.  I was in the middle of my book club book so he read the first one.  It seemed like it would be more trouble then it was worth for the both of us to try and read on separate Kindles.

    The other day I decided to start reading and I’m hooked {like I sat in my car at lunch and read hooked}.  The books, while not extremely well written, have a very good story line.  I’m only a little more then halfway though but I have a feeling it won’t take long for me to start the 2nd book.

    If anyone is looking for something to read I would recommend picking this up.

  • Time for a change?

    A blog change that is.  It’s been about 3 months since I set the new blog up and while I like my current blog theme I feel like it might be time for a change.  {Holy Crap tomorrow will be 3 months!  Love ya hon!}  It took me a while to even find a theme I liked so I don’t imagine finding another one will be really easy.  Thankfully I bookmarked a link to hundreds of themes.  I guess I will start looking around to see what I can find.

    Yes I know it’s Friday and there are no pics.  I’m awful.  I plan to go on a little road trip this weekend to take a few pics.  And by road trip I mean I want to run over to Edwards Mill {it’s a road, a road I drive on EVERYDAY} to take some pics of the cool little barn and then across the street are horses AND cows.  It’s a pretty busy little road and I don’t really want to stop on my way to or from work.  Plus there is a lot of tall grass and I’m not sure wedges would be my best defense against you know, snakes or something.  Hopefully it won’t be raining I will get a chance to take some good pics.  I love to take landscape pics.  I would love to make a coffee table book of old barns from all around.  Do people even still buy coffee table books?  Hmm.

    Happy Friday!

  • These shoes are made for walking!

    I FOUND THEM!  Finally after several weeks of looking I finally found the cute pair of everyday wedges I had been looking for.  I found them at Belk before I met the girls for dinner.  And the best part, they were on clearance and on sale.  Not even sure how that happened but when I got ready to party they were about $10.00 less then the clearance sticker.  Score!

    I wore them to work today and they feel pretty good.  Just a little rubbing on my long toe.
