  • And the winner is….

The Audi Q5.  The decision was made last night after we got a few more numbers in.  Now we just need to pick a color.  We are going to the Audi dealership tomorrow afternoon to put down our deposit and pick out our colors.  We know we want the black interior but we haven’t decided between the Monsoon Grey or the Moonlight Blue.  Either way it looks as though we will have to wait 3 WHOLE months to get our car.  I’m not gonna lie, this is going to kill me and I won’t be driving it everyday.

The car will have to be built and shipped over from Germany.  They are pretty popular right and there just aren’t a lot on the lots.  Of course, we are being a bit pickier but for the price I guess we should.  I’ve never ordered a car before so this whole process is new to me.  The thought of having a car “custom” made just for you never really crossed my mind.  I guess I always thought it would cost more but surprisingly it costs just the same.  Huh!

That’s the Monsoon Grey.  MMMM pretty!

  • It’s alive!

Do you guys see this?  It’s a new leaf on my orchid.  I really wasn’t sure how this thing was doing.  Last night I pulled it down to water it and there it was, this tiny new leaf.  Yay!  I am really proud of myself.  I’ve managed to keep it alive since February.  Hopefully it will bloom again.

  • Take that Irene!

Needless to say we survive hurricane Irene.  Friday afternoon she started to roll in and the clouds looked pretty awesome.  On Saturday there was just a lot of wind and rain but nothing really crazy.  I went to my hair appointment and the power flickered a few times while I was there but it never went out.

That afternoon Matt and I pretty much just vegged out since there wasn’t much to do.  We only lost power once for maybe 2 minutes.  What’s funny is it wasn’t really raining or even that windy when the power went out.  Later that afternoon once things had calmed down, we walked around our neighborhood.  This is when we got to see the damage.

Our street sign was knocked down.  When, neither of us are sure.

Tree limbs from the neighbors tree.

As you can see it was really not bad at all here.  We were right on the edge of the storm.  Of course many places to the east of us did not fair so well.  Lots of flooding and damage.  Roads washed out, thousands are still without power.  I’m sure the clean up effort from this storm will take a long time.  But we can be thankful it wasn’t bad here.

  • Foto Friday = Car shopping

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know. This week has been shittastic so yeah.

Hurricane Irene is quickly approaching so Matt and I took this opportunity to go and test drive a few cars this afternoon.  Originally we had planned to only hit Kia since it’s right down the street.  But the clouds were looking a little ominous and it was starting rain but over towards Capital it didn’t look quite as bad.  Hmmm, what to do, stay by the house or check out the cars we were really interested in?  Yeah we decided to drive over to Capital and check out Audi and Infinity.  Audi was our first stop since Matt knows a few of the sales guys there.  We drove the Q5 which is a really nice SUV and pretty similar to the A4 Matt currently has.  Next we headed over to Infinity to test drive the EX35.  I personally think this car is very luxurious, even more so then the Q5.  But after driving both Matt and I agreed the Q5 was a nicer drive and ride.  It is also a heftier payment.

We still have several more cars on our list to check out.  The Ford Edge, the Kia SUV’s and the we already test drove the Acura RDX last weekend.  I have a feeling some of our decision will be based on how much we get for the A4.  If the money is right who knows what will happen, or what our decision will be.  The goal is to get Matt a nice car for now and possibly something for me to drive once we have a kid.

Also I’m hoping to get some good pics of Irene this weekend.  I’m currently charging my camera batteries.  The clouds this afternoon were pretty awesome and I’m hoping to get some cool pics over the weekend.

  • Dry Eyes

I’m happy to report today was much better then yesterday.  I’m still super ready for the weekend though.  Even if {and hopefully} we sit around and do nothing but veg.  I feel like I could use a complete veg fest.  My brain needs to decompress for realz!  I mean I was dreaming about work last night, not cool!

On a side note my eyes have been killing me lately.  Like I’ll wake up in the middle of the night and feel like I can’t open my eyes because they are so dry.  I know I’m wearing my contacts a lot more then I used to. I use to come home and take them out but now I wear them until I go to bed.  Several nights I’ve almost forgotten to take them out.  I used to not be so bothered by the blurriness when we’d sit around and just watch tv but now I have to have my glasses on or my contacts in.  The other thing I realized is that we’ve been keeping some of the lights off at work.  Specifically the ones over and around my desk.  I wonder if sitting in the dark is making them feel drier?  Any thoughts?

  • Dear Wednesday,

    Eff off! Thx!

But seriously today SUCKED!  Everything was messed up and that stuff kept me busy all day.  It started with customer D-bag.  First he’s complaining because the number we gave him wasn’t what he wanted.  He said he asked for a certain area code so I found the area code and gave him the number.  Another order comes through and I give him said area code but OHHHHH NOOO, “I don’t want an OH area code!”  Seriously guy?!?!?!  That’s what you freaking asked for.  Honestly I’m pretty sure he is a complete and utter moron!  Anyhoo that was just the start and end to my day.  The middle sucked too.

The only good thing I did today was going to sit in my car at lunch to read.  I’m almost half way the final Hunger Games book.  I have to say I didn’t see some of this coming.  I figure I will be finished by this weekend so I’m looking for a few more books to add to my kindle just in case hurricane Irene decides to turn more west and comes for Raleigh.  Right now they are predicting she is going more east and I don’t think we will get a whole lot aside from rain.   But at least we have candles and batteries.  I wouldn’t too much mind a nice stormy weekend.  As long a I can make my hair appointment on Saturday.  I really need a haircut and my color has grown out a good bit.

  • Hurricanes and earthquakes oh my!

What started as a pretty blah Tuesday quickly turned around after lunch.  I mean I managed to drop the top half of my english muffin on the floor in the break room at work, dammit!  And of course the AC wasn’t working either.  Yeah I figured today would suck.  Boy was I in for a surprise.

Turns out hurricane Irene could be headed our way this weekend.  Admittedly I pay little to no attention to the news but while I was listening to the radio on my way to work, the guy mentioned Irene so I decided to see what all the fuss was about.  Turns out, this morning anyway, she looked like she was headed straight for Raleigh this weekend.  WOW!  So Matt and I chatted over IM and decided it might be a good idea to run out at lunch and pick up a few supplies.  I ran to my new fave, Carolina Pottery, to pick up candles and Matt ran to Lowe’s to get batteries and stuff.

    I was actually pretty excited to blog about my first trip to pick up hurricane supplies.  I’ve never actually gone to get supplies for hurricanes even though I went through Opal in Alabama and Erin in Texas.  Granted neither of them were really bad where I was, but Opal did knock the power out for a while.  It was pretty cool to watch the sky turn green when the lightning would strike.  {Apparently the algae from the ocean made the sky look green in the lightning.}

Anyhoo, right before 2pm I heard a few of my co-workers talking about the building.  I wasn’t really paying attention but the gist was the building moved.  Right around this time Matt IM’s me to ask if we just had an earthquake?  WHAT?!!?  I didn’t feel anything but I knew people around me were talking.  I piped up that my husband was in Durham and he felt it.  This immediately began talks of an earthquake.  I begin to check FB {because you know it doesn’t happen if it isn’t on FB} and sure enough statuses started popping up regarding an earthquake.  Soon we realized epicenter was actually north of Richmond VA.  People all along the east coast were updating their statuses regarding the earthquake.  It was felt as far north as Toronto.  I’m not sure how far south they felt it though.

Talks of earthquakes continued for a good part of the afternoon.  I just want to say that I am BEYOND bummed that I didn’t feel the stupid earthquake. 🙁  However there was a small earthquake while I was in Alabama and I remember that one so I don’t feel like I completely missed out but still!

  • You light up my house?

Literally Matt lit up our house this weekend, with lights.  For a while now I’ve wanted to replace the lighting through out the house.  Most of our fixtures were these yucky old gold fixtures.  I knew it wouldn’t take a lot to replace them so once we had more cash back from AMEX Matt ordered our gift cards to Lowes.

On Saturday we went and picked out our new lights.  We got new outside lights, lights for the foyer, hallway lights and a fan for the guest bedroom.  Oh and let’s not forget the super cute rug I found.  Score!  I found 3 I liked and then showed them to Matt.  Much to my surprise he actually liked (or decided to tolerate my fave ;)) and we added that to our cart full.

Later that night we managed to hang the foyer light.

As you can see the one down the hallway mirrors the hanging light.  Well at least as much as it could.

This is at the top of the stairs on the main floor.  The ones in the upstairs hallway are similar but not quite as large.

The fan in the guest room.

Our new outdoor lights.  A HUGE improvement over the old, bug-filled ones.

Our new rug.  Julio loves it, of course.  I really liked the colors of this one.  You can’t really tell from the pic but it’s got blue and green, brown, beige and tan.  It matches the color scheme I am trying to stick with.  I thought Matt would be like “it’s too florally” but he didn’t.  And he keeps saying he likes it. YAY!

Needless to say our weekend was pretty busy.  We sent all of Sunday hanging the new lights.  And we had to make another Lowe’s trip because he forgot we had 2 lights upstairs and I forgot about the one at the top of the stairs, so we had the same count and were both WRONG!  HA!

  • Oopsy!

I just realized my blog theme (the one I installed last night) had an update.  I updated and SHIZZLE everything is completely different.  Needless to say I will doing some more updating tonight.
