  • I like owls

    For some weird reason, lately I am really digging owls.  Hence the new blog header.  🙂  Today I was browsing Etsy and I found some cute owl prints.  They are printed on old dictionary paper.  I think I’m in love.  I have no idea where I would put them but they are just so cute.

    I really need to get back in the swing of decorating.  I’ve said it numerous times but I really need to start making Matt’s house feel like “our” house.  We have different tastes though so I have try to incorporate more modern ideas in with my traditional style.  My problem is I love so many different styles its hard for me to choose just one.  Oh well, I just need to keep looking and working on it.

  • It’s chili weather

    Today was one of those days that as soon as you get out of bed you realize it’s just one of those days.  You know those days that are rainy and dreary and chilly out.  The kind that is only good for curling up in bed and napping and watching tv and you know fall is finally here.  Yep that’s the kind of day it was.  Well aside from the fact that work didn’t get this memo so instead of spending the day curled up in bed I spent it at work at my desk.  Um, BOO!

    I am really enjoying fall.  I hope it sticks around for a while.  It seems like summer was sooo hot and lasted entirely too long.  I used to say that spring was my favorite season but fall in North Carolina is pretty awesome.  The leaves turn beautiful colors of orange, red and yellow.  Football starts, hell yay!  Oh and the air just smells amazing.  Like fresh cut grass or pine trees and clean air.  {I’m not even sure how air can smell but in the fall it smells great!}

    Oh and let’s not forget that during fall you can start using the fireplace.  I mean who doesn’t love to cuddle in front of a fire?  And  you can make chili!  YUM!  This is what Matt and I are having for dinner.  🙂

  • I’ve been shopping

    Today at lunch I went to one of my fave lunch time spots, yep Carolina Pottery.  I actually only set out to buy my big vase, you may remember this post, and to get an NC State blanket for the new car.  I decided I had put off my new vase long enough and Matt and I wanted a blanket to keep in the car for tailgating.  Not that I think we will do a lot of sitting in the back but if we do we’d like it to not get scratched up.

    Anyway, I got my vase and while I was looking around I noticed a few candle sticks.  For $14.99 I figured this was a good deal and would get me on my way to getting the fireplace finished.  So I added those to my cart.  Then I had to walk past all of the Halloween stuff on my way to the NC State stuff.  This made me think I might need something for the door.  I found a cute fall wreath so that also got added to the cart.  The only thing that didn’t get added to my cart was our blanket.  For some reason they didn’t have any.  They had tons of random stuff so I was kind of surprised they didn’t have a blanket.  Oh well.  We still have another week or so before the car is here.

    Speaking of the car – it is on a boat!

    Now I’m sure you are dying to see all my goodies.  Well you are in luck. 😉

    I’m not sure about the pics in the middle but I’m just going to leave it for now.  Also I think the kitty condo is going to move upstairs.  Julio rarely sits in so I think that might be a better place for it.

    Don’t you love the vase?

    From a distance.  Notice my little friend is alive and well.  🙂

    A close up.  You can’t really tell but the ribbon is orange with green dots.

  • Unexpected guest

    image

    I found this cute little guy on my car Friday morning.  I tried to get him off the car and in the process he went SPLAT on the driveway.  He hoped to the bushes so I hope he’s okay.

  • A dying tradition

    **I wrote this post a while back like in January.  I’ve held onto it for a while for a reason.  Now it looks as thought it’s time to post this little gem.  I just want to add that once again there is drama surrounding this and that’s why I am finally posting this.

    There are a few things I try to avoid on my blog and I think I’ve avoided this one long enough.

    A few weeks ago I think I mentioned some internet drama.  Well it looks like some of this has started to resurface.  To make a long story short a couple of knotties invited a small group of girls to join an “off board”.  The board was presented to us as a “safe” place to talk about various things that we might not want displayed in a public forum.  For the most part this is what that board was.  A place to go if you needed to vent about real life issues.

    Well the founders of the board had a falling out and in the process one person decided to throw the group under the bus.  It was presented to others that the girls of this board were talking about other knotties.  Basically the off board was made to sound like a bunch of catty high school girls.  When in reality this is FAR from the truth.  The founders were the ones that were talking.  And from what I’m told one of them, one that is entirely too old to be acting this way, egged on the other 2.  She then copied and pasted several of the conversations, before deleting them, and sent them to the people that were talked about.  The shit hit the fan and when all was said and done, all the girls on the other board felt as though they were being attacked and bullied.  And none of them had any idea what exactly had happened or if it was made to look like they said something they didn’t.

    During the course of events, it came to everyone’s attention that this one person had pretty much conned numerous girls out of money.  And now this person is on the verge on killing a very special tradition.   A tradition that started several years ago, is now on the verge of collapse.  The girls who are regs on the main board have decided not to participate in this tradition due to one person.  She is currently the “gate-keeper” if you will.  And now that most girls know this person is not trustworthy, no one is willing to give her money in order to participate.

    It’s really a shame this person continues to “hang” around.  No one wants her around and this tradition, one she refuses to hand over, keeps her around.  And in the process she is going to kill this tradition.

    What is even more bothersome is that the new year has produced many new knotties.  Knotties who won’t know not to send her money.  And won’t know this person is not trustworthy.  At least not with out a lot of drama happening.

    ***ETA:  The “gate-keeper” has now passed this tradition to yet another person who is clinging on to it.  She is rarely on the board and has no idea who a lot of the new girls are nor do they know who she is.  Essentially she, the new gate-keeper, is continuing to kill this tradition.  So you know what I saw, SCREW IT!  It’s really sad the newbs will most likely miss out on an awesome tradition due to a few bad seeds clinging to anything they can get their hands on just to be relevant!

  • Everyone gets a trophy

    I saw an article on Yahoo the other day but hadn’t gotten around to reading it yet.  This morning on the radio they mentioned said article.  A kid in Arkansas, a middle schooler I think, is no longer allowed score touch downs while playing football.  The kid is “too good” and apparently it’s not fair to the other teams they play!  Okay seriously, wtf?!?!

    You hear more and more stories like this now a days.  Kids now play on sports teams that don’t keep score!  They all get trophies because the parents have coddled these kids to the point of no return.  I can only imagine the group of whiny-ass needy adults we (this is the collective we and in no way am I referring to myself!) are currently raising.  Kids have no idea what it’s like to lose.  They don’t know how to deal with bullying.  {Okay now I really don’t think bullying is right but since the dawn of man kids have probably been bullied to a point.  You learn from it and move on.}

    I blame the parents.  When did our parents raise us to raise our children this way?  Where did they go wrong?  I don’t feel as though my parents raised me this way.  I feel completely jaded and cynical.  😉  I want winners and losers.  Not everyone gets a trophy.  Sometimes other people are better then you.  It happens, that’s life!  I feel that kids and parents alike need to toughen up.  Grow a pair.  Learn to lose.  Learn to pick yourself up when you fall down.  And learn to take a stand against those who push others around.

    Okay I think my rant for today is over.  And if this pisses you off, you are probably one of the people I am talking about!
