  • OCM – week 1

Just a quick update on my progress with OCM.  So far so good.  I’ve had a few breakouts since starting but I had breakouts before so I don’t really see any change in that.  Overall I guess my skin looks fine.  To be honest I haven’t seen any huge changes.  I guess that’s not really a bad thing.

I did decide to use my regular Aveeno face wash in the mornings.  I felt I wasn’t getting my face as clean trying to do this in the shower.  I’m not sure if it was just the weather a few days last week but I also felt my skin was a bit oilier during the day.  Again this could have just been the weird warm weather or it could have been I wasn’t doing a great job in the shower.  Either way I switched back to regular face wash.  Since I haven’t really had any issues I will probably continue with this for a while.  I do really like the ease with which my eye make-up comes off at night.  It’s nice not waking up with huge black circles from my mascara and eye-liner.

  • Boots and a Tip

Since it’s the end of the season I figured it was a good time to find some nice black boots on sale.  And score!  Thank you Macy’s!  Half price off gorgeous Nine West boots plus an extra 20% for wearing red.  🙂

Have I ever mentioned how much I love Nine West shoes?  I love love love them!  Some of my favorite shoes ever have been Nine West.

Aren’t they amazing?  And you are probably wondering how I managed to get them to stand up.  As I was paying for my awesome new boots the sales lady asked if I knew how to keep them upright in the closet.  I said no.  She said to put a rolled up magazine in them.  Hmmm.  I wasn’t sure exactly sure how this would work but when I got home I grabbed a few old Pottery Barn catalogs, rolled them up and inserted into my boots.  When you place the rolled up magazine in the boot it expands and keeps the whole boot leg up.  Pretty amazing.

And coming soon our Travel blog.

  • What else should you do

with a doll head?  I mean the dollar store had tons of random doll heads the other day so my coworker suggested we get one and put it on another coworker’s desk.  Of course my inner Martha came out and that just wouldn’t do.  I mean everyone needs a doll head snow globe right? 😀

I can’t decide if I’m just crafty or a little demented.  Maybe it’s my inner Dexter.  HA!

    Happy Friday!

  • It smells like Spring

Yesterday morning I walked outside to go to work and the day was already amazing.  There was a slight nip in the air, the birds were singing, and the air.   The air smelled glorious.  It smelled like Spring.  You know what I’m talking about.  That awesome smell that can only be described as Spring.

I know it’s still a little early for Spring but the weather in Raleigh has been amazing this week.  Sixties most of the week.  I will say I might be slightly bummed that we probably won’t see any snow this year but if the weather stays like this I will definitely not be complaining.

  • What I am currently working on…

On Sunday I went to visit our friend’s new baby Rowan.  Baby Rowan is almost 2 weeks old and the perfect age to photograph.  🙂  I am really glad my friend’s asked me to come and take some pics of him.  I’m still editing everything but this one turned out so well I had to post.

  • OCM – Day 3

Over the weekend Matt and I ran some errands and while we were out we bought some Castor Oil and Sunflower Seed Oil.  Saturday night I started OCM (oil cleansing method).  As I mentioned a few days ago the thought is that by using “good” oil on your skin it will help get rid of the “bad” pore clogging oil and dirt.

I used a 70/30 mixture of Sunflower Seed Oil to Castor Oil.  This is the recommended ratio for oily skin.  I must say it’s pretty weird to slather oil all over your face.  If you’re like me you spent a good portion of your teen years trying to remove as much oil as possible.  But as I got older I learned more and realized striping all the oil from your skin wasn’t a good idea either.

Anyway, I messaged the oil into my skin while I let a wash cloth sit under the hot water.  Once I left I had sufficiently oiled myself I laid the hot wash cloth on my face to steam.  {Please use caution with the hot water.  You want it hot but not scalding.}  After my steam I rinsed the wash cloth and begin to remove the oil.  I was really surprised how nice my skin felt after.  Honestly I expected it might be kind of greasy but it was soft and clean feeling.  And I didn’t get the tight clean feeling.  So far I’ve done it morning and night since Saturday and my skin looks good and it feels nice.  I even feel like my make-up has stayed on a bit better.  Not to mention this stuff is GREAT for removing eye make up.  😉

I’ll give a few more updates before I make my final decision but as I mentioned before as long as my skin doesn’t go crazy I’ll probably stick with this.  It a cheap and natural way to cleanse your skin.

  • High Halle!

Get it?  HAHA!  Poor thing had her dental appointment this morning to have her teeth cleaned and possibly pulled.  I dropped her off before heading to work.  Around 10:30 I received a call from the Vet that the procedure was complete and no teeth had been extracted.

I am very excited they didn’t have to pull any of her teeth.  One that would totally suck for her and two it’s much easier on the wallet.

I picked her up this afternoon and she was not to happy.  Her poor little voice sounds kind of scratchy and weak.  She was very excited to be home.  And a little scared too I think.  I got her upstairs and opened the carrier to let her out and she was shaking.  I held her for a minute until she wanted to get down.  She immediately went to her food bowl and then downstairs.

Matt and I decided to take a little nap and when I came downstairs she was up.  Poor thing, her little eyes are soo big.  She looks pretty high.  🙂  I guess she’s not quite over all the effects of the anesthesia.  I grabbed her old time friend Fuzzy in hopes he would make her feel a little better.  I’m sure she’ll be back to her grumpy old self tomorrow.
