  • The story of us!

Three years ago over Memorial Day weekend, Matt and I both traveled two hours to the beach at Topsail.  Shortly after meeting we realized we were actually neighbors.  And while neither of us know our first official date day we use this weekend as our “anniversary”.

I must preface this post by saying there are 2 sides to every story and well this one is no different.  🙂  There is my version and Matt’s version.  Of course mine is the “right” and accurate version.  HAHA!  And Matt doesn’t blog so he can’t argue with what I say. 😉

A few months after I moved to Raleigh, my co-worker started talking about a beach trip she was going on with a few other girls from work.  The thought of a weekend at the beach sounded amazing so I asked if I could come.  They said yes and I prepared for the weekend.  There ended up being a large group of people going but since a few of us were the first ones at the beach house I managed to snag a room.  By the end of the day I was the only person left not sharing a room.  Since Matt and I had been chatting most of the night I offered to let him crash with me.  I know I know. 🙂

Anyway, later that night as we were getting ready to go to sleep, I may or may not have told him we could make out.  We ended up spending most of the weekend hanging out together and I told him since we were neighbors we would hang out when we got home.  Of course by this point he was completely smitten and I’m pretty sure he already knew I was the love of his life.  😀  He however will disagree with that last statement but it’s cool.  I know the real him.

Once we got home we still continued to hang out all the time.  It was pretty easy since he literally lived two seconds away.

Fast forward three years and we are now married!  YAY!

Who knew a simple trip to the beach would lead to the love of my life?

  • Our wedding day – finally!

Two weeks ago today Matt and I stood on a lawn overlooking the ocean in St Lucia and pledged our love for one another.  Awww!  As pretty as all of that sounds however, the day got off to a rough start.  Someone *cough cough* had a little too much fun hanging out with everyone the night before.

I woke up Friday morning like whoa.  At first I thought I’d be okay but the more I woke up the worse I felt.  Needless to say the bride had a rough morning.  It wasn’t until after lunch, some tummy meds, napping and a shower that I finally started to feel better.  I’m not going to lie, I felt pretty bad for a while.  But thankfully as I began getting ready things got better.

After Matt left our room and headed to his brother’s room, I started getting ready.  The mom’s and a few friends were to come up to the suite and help (or watch) me get ready.  By the time they got to the room I was almost done with my make up.  Nic offered to do my hair for me and she was awesome.  I really had no idea what I was going to do with my hair so I was glad she offered.  And I must say she did an amazing job.  It looked sooo much better then anything I would have ended up doing.  I thought it really completed the look.

Once my hair was finished I put my dress on and Malcolm took pics of me, me and the girls, and me and the moms.  It was now getting closer to the ceremony time so everyone decided to head back down to the lawn.  My mom stayed with me to wait on the wedding coordinator, Georgia.  She was supposed to be there around 4:15 or 4:20 but I’m pretty sure it was more like 4:30.  🙂  So I guess I was late to my own wedding.  Not that anyone but me probably noticed.

When we got down to the site, Georgia ran to go get my dad so he could walk me down the aisle and then it all began.  I got to the spot where we were supposed to wait and looked over at Matt, who was standing with his back to me and I almost lost it.  Like ugly cry lost it.  I knew if started crying I would never pull myself back together so I managed to hold it in.  I never got nervous but there were a few times I felt the overwhelming urge to cry, because I was so happy.

Finally I was there standing next to him.  The officiant began and a little way into the ceremony she says “Matthew J Spencer”, I look at Matt, he looks at me, everyone else is chuckling.  Matt turned to me and said “I have something to tell you” and we both laughed.  When she finally turns and stops for a sec Matt goes, “my last name is Edwards.”  She has this confused look on her face and immediately grabs the book from Patrick, scratches out Spencer and writes down Edwards.  She proceeds with the ceremony only to then mispronounce my middle name.  Matt and I both said the correct name, I mean no need to correct her again right?  HA!

The ceremony honestly felt like it took FOREVER.  Finally we exchanged rings and then it was time for a kiss.  Next they pulled a table over so we could sign the marriage license.  And can I just say, my dress was NOT made for sitting.  I felt like my boobies were jammed under my throat.  🙂  After all that jazz was complete, we walked back up the aisle only to stand there.  It was a little chaotic.

Sandals had one of their photographers come to the ceremony to take pics.  Matt and I had Malcolm taking our pics but it was kind of nice having the Sandals guy there too.  He was able to get everyone together so we could get some group shots and he also made us do some HORRIBLE posed pics.  Thankfully Malcolm got some great shots out of the cheesy posed ones.

After the pics were taken everyone headed up to the Lookout Terrace for the cocktail hour.  Everyone had cocktails and appetizers and then Matt and I cut the cake and had our first dance.  When we finally managed to get a shuttle we all headed back down for dinner.  Dinner was nice and the food was really good.  But once dinner was done Matt and I were soo hot we decided to go back to the suite and go swimming.  We popped open a bottle of bubbly at the pool before heading back to our room.

Overall the wedding day went pretty well minus the rough start.  And Friday the 13th didn’t seem to be unlucky.  We managed to get sprinkled on during the ceremony and I had a green grasshopper jump on my dress while we were taking a pic, so take that Friday the 13th.

Unfortunately I don’t have anymore edited wedding pics right now.  They are en route from England.

  • I got a Dyson!

Who knew this would turn into a blog post?  HAHA!  So Matt and I got some unexpected money as a wedding gift.  This unexpected amount was just enough to cover the cost of a Dyson.  And you guessed it that’s exactly what we ended up buying.

I originally thought about putting one on our registry but figured a gift with that price tag would be left.  I didn’t think about the fact that Target would give you 10% off your registry after the wedding to purchase any left over items.  So I ended up adding one the other day.  Well Matt started doing some research, because that’s what he does ;), and ended up finding the one we wanted at Walmart for $100.00 less then the Target price.  Screw 10%, give me $100.00.

After the whole ipod debacle over Valentine’s Day I decided I would also check the Dyson prices on Amazon.  I mean if Walmart can’t ship to store quicker then Amazon can ship to my house with a head start what’s the point right?  As it turned out Walmart had the Dyson I wanted for the price with same day in store pick up!  Holy crap!  I immediately texted Matt to tell him we could get it today from Walmart and made the purchase.  EEEKKK!

Matt ran to pick up the new vacuum this afternoon.  When he got home he decided to test it out on our rug in the den.  He then sent me a pic.  OMG!  Let’s just say the rug was dirty.  HAHA!  I couldn’t wait to get home to try out my new toy – yes it is sad when you get excited over a vacuum.  So he brought it upstairs and I started to go around our room.  Several passes over one spot and I needed to empty the container.  WOW!  Our floors were dirty!  I went over the carpet in our bedroom about 3 times before the canister stopped getting super filled.  I still cannot believe just how dirty the carpet was.  Not only does it look cleaner (and the carpet has got to be over 5 years old) but it also feels softer.

I must say I was pretty reluctant to spend that kind of money on a vacuum but Dyson just might win my heart.  I foresee lots of vacuum in the near future.

I loved this little spot at our resort.

Another cool spot on the resort.

This isn’t a great pic but I still like it.

  • I’m spoiled, he’s allergic

I’m spoiled.  Yes, there I said it.  Actually that was my thought about 4 o’clock this morning.  Since Matt and I returned home he’s developed some random dry cough.  He has woken up several nights having coughing fits.  Last night I woke up to him coughing.  As I lay there mostly asleep, he got up and told me he would go downstairs to the couch.  My next thought was how spoiled I was.  There I am laying in bed sleeping and he’s the one not feeling great and HE goes to sleep on the couch.  Awww!  I guess a good wife would have offered to go to another room or to the couch but in all fairness I WAS asleep.  He was awake. 🙂

Matt jokes that he is allergic to marriage since he hasn’t felt so well since we got back.  Personally I think it’s allergies.  We both seem to cough, sniff and be stuffy more when we are home.  Could this be the two cats?  Maybe.  Could it be the carpet that now needs to be replaced?  Sure.  Could it be his yucky pillow he’s had for years and years and years?  Umm YES!  HAHA!  But really I think it’s probably a little bit of all of it.  I still refuse to believe our adorable little furbaby Julio could be the culprit.  He is our baby and it’s not like we would get rid of him even if we were allergic.

It’s funny the things you will tolerate given the circumstance.

I think this is a crazy awesome pic of the wave.

This was a sailboat in Marigot Bay.

  • Cool whip or whipped cream?

One night I was reading one of my regular daily blogs and the girl mentioned eating oreos or something with cool whip.  MMM yummy!  Matt just happened to see this and said something like “how lazy”.  I asked what he was talking about and he said the cool whip.  He was like why would you buy cool whip when you can just make it.  This lead us to a discussion about growing up.

Unlike Matt, my mom didn’t really like to cook.  I mean she made meals and stuff but she always said she didn’t like to cook.  And I remember several dishes from a kid that I loved but only remember having a few times.  Anyhoo, not really the point, Matt grew up with a mom who did like to cook and bake so we both have pretty different opinions about food.  It’s really only been in the past few years that I have wanted to become a better cook.  (I feel pretty confident in my baking abilities 😉 )

One night while we were at Matt’s parents house, Matt’s mom whipped up some whipped cream to top our strawberries.  Who knew you could pour heavy cream in a bowl and beat till whipped?  Obviously not this girl.  Now I find myself whipping up heavy cream for our strawberries.

I just think it’s funny how the two of us can look at something as simple as “cool-whip” and think two completely different things.  I’m not sure what it was about the cool whip conversation that got me but every now and then I find myself thinking about cool whip vs whipped cream.  I’ve actually been meaning to write about this for a while.  It just hit me as I was standing in the kitchen with heavy cream in my hand.

  • Back to reality

Back to life and back to reality, I think Soul II Soul said it best.  But I say UGHHH!  Vacation is SOO much better.

Today was mine and Matt’s first days back at work since the wedding.  I have to say it wasn’t quite as difficult as I thought it would be.  I guess it doesn’t hurt there was a loud clap of thunder about 6:15ish this morning.  Thanks mother nature!

It would seem that things at work have changed yet again.  I fully expected to in this morning and find out what I’d be doing since they told me before I left they were moving contracts and credit to a different group.  Well it turns out they just made US contracts and credit.  My coworker was also out on Friday and our manager was out today so who the heck knows what’s really going on.  I just continued to work on stuff I know and we’ll see what happens tomorrow.

I know some of you are anxiously awaiting all of the wedding details and I promise I will start posting about that this week but just not today.

I spent most of yesterday (like all of it) going through the nearly 800 pics I took from St Lucia.  I’ve almost edited all of the good ones at this point but I’m still not quite done.  Not to mention I haven’t even looked through the pics from our point and shoot.  Mostly we use that for the obligatory “us” pics.   So for now I will leave you with a few random pics of St Lucia.

no pressure!  no really that’s the name of the drink.

    The cove at our resort.

And of course the happy couple.  This is overlooking the beautiful little town of Dennery.

  • We are MARRIED!

I’ll detail out the wedding in a later post but for now I just wanted to say Matt and I are MARRIED!  YAY!  As it turns out I don’t think Friday the 13th had anything on us.  It sprinkled during the ceremony and I had a green grasshopper jump on my dress while we were taking a photo.  How much more luck can one girl have?

And it is our 1 week anniversary.  Awww!
