I cook pasta
Pretty well now I think. I remember a few years ago my parents invited some of our family friends to their house for Thanksgiving. I was in charge of the mac and cheese and I remember Justin making a comment about me cooking the noodles to death. I honestly didn’t know any better and I liked them that way. I guess I always feared if they weren’t mushy they probably weren’t cooked.
Anyway, fast forward to now, every time I make noodles I think about that comment. But now I have noodles pretty down pat. Thanks to the food network and Matt I have finally realized the error of my way and learned to properly cook noodles.
I just thought I would share this little story since I cooked some pretty yummy noodles in vodka sauce for dinner. Go me!

All that glitters
Currently are my fingernails. One of my Christmas presents was a gift card to Ulta. Thanks to Pinterest I’ve been dying to find some glitter nail polish. Today at lunch, during a monsoon I might add, I ran to Ulta. I must say I was pretty disappointed with their selection. There were only a few bottles of glitter polish. I finally found a cool bottle of pink glitter. My idea was to put it over darker polish that I had. As I was walking around the store I found a clearance table with some Sally Hanson polish. This set has 3 bottles of polish for 5.00. Score! One of the colors is a light purplish grey (the name isn’t on the bottle).
After Matt and I got home from the grocery store I started to work on my nails. Five coats later I have amazingly awesome nails! I must admit they are a little flashy for my taste but New Year’s Eve is just a few days away and they do look festive!
Sorry for the crap picture. I couldn’t really get a good pic of the colors.

Christmas Cards
I didn’t want to post this until closer to time. I ended up buying 2 sets of cards to send out. I couldn’t decide which card I liked better and I figured what the heck, if one card is nice, two is obviously better! I even bought Christmas stamps to make the envelopes more fancy. {Yes I know I’m weird.}
Merry Christmas!

It’s beginning to smell a lot like Christmas!
Matt and I just took out our first batch of Christmas cookies! We’ve started a tradition of making sugar cookies that we decorate and ginger bread cookies. Matt likes the ginger ones better and I like the sugar ones. Don’t get me wrong both of them are really yummy but we each have our favorite. I think that’s good though. It adds some variety since I would probably only make the sugar cookies since I like to decorate them.
In other Christmas related news, there is two days till our Christmas! Basically tomorrow is Christmas Eve for me and Matt. Since we will go to his parent’s house for Christmas we are having “our” Christmas Friday morning! I am really excited. I like this little tradition of opening our gifts at home before heading out. Plus it doesn’t make much sense to haul gifts to his parent’s house only to turn around and bring them home. We normally have enough stuff to bring back without adding to it. 🙂

One floor down
Two more to go until I can get new carpet! WOO HOO! Over the weekend Matt and I finally finished painting the downstairs. {We still have the bonus room but I’m not concerned with that right now.} Matt said we had to paint before we could get new carpet. I guess that makes sense. I had really hoped to get all of this done in the fall but football season made it difficult. Now that football is over we should have quite a few open weekends.
We both took Wednesday off so we will start painting up the stairs. This should be an adventure since it’s a stairway and we don’t really have a ladder that will work. 😉 Still I am very excited to get moving on this project. Not to mention we are repainting the WHOLE house. Yesh I get tired just thinking about the fact we have 2 more floors. Well technically we have 2 stairways and 3 bedrooms. We’ll finish all the carpeted rooms first and then work on the main floor since that is hardwood.
I’ll start posting pics as we go, maybe. 😉

Friday fun day?
Last night the girls has our 3rd annual ornament exchange. This is really fun and I love the tradition we’ve started. It’s fun to go out and buy a cute ornament. Pier 1 is my fave store for this. The past 2 years I’ve ended up with really great ornaments. Last year I got a super cute bell snowman and this year I got a red ball with silver glittery reindeer. 🙂 Now I just need to hang my new ornament on the tree.
I had the day off today so this morning I took Hal to the vet. She’s been throwing up a good bit lately and I thought it was time to get her checked out. The vet did some blood work and will let me know the results on Monday. She also found 2 of her top teeth are really bad. She said the tooth decay could be causing her to be sick. My guess is that she isn’t chewing well and it’s making her sick. 🙁 I guess as long as her blood work comes back okay she will go back to the vet in January to have her teeth cleaned and possibly have the 2 bad teeth removed. Poor girl. I know she’s getting old but if that will help her feel better we will do it.
Matt and I have also noticed she seems to be walking a little gingerly and the vet confirmed that she has come cartilage wear in her front left leg. I got her some medicine that should help with repair and she’s also now going to get a little canned food since the med is a powder. (She LOVES canned food!)
After an oh so fun trip to the vet I ran to the salon to get my hair cut. I think I really like my new stylist. A few more cuts and I will know for sure. Then I hit the UPS store to mail mom and dad’s Christmas gifts. Unfortunately they may not make it in time. 🙁 That’s what I get for buying dad an odd shaped gift. One quick trip to the mall and Christmas shopping was officially DONE! I got home and wrapped presents and I am ready for the holiday!
Wow I feel like I was busy today!

Christmas shopping – done!
Matt and I were pretty busy this past weekend. The weekend literally felt like it flew by. On Saturday we headed to the mall and began our Christmas shopping. Several hours, and several locations later, we had almost everything for everyone crossed off our lists. I was pretty excited we managed to get almost all of our Christmas shopping done.
I know he is still working on a few more things for me and I just have one more item to find for him. I finished up everything else today at lunch. 😉 Go me! Thankfully I have Friday off so I can finish up his last gift and get my parent’s gifts in the mail.
Happy Hump Day!

Fa la la la Ficus Tree
Last year our company started a “friendly” competition between the business units. The objective was to decorate a ficus tree for Christmas using only office supplies. Our floor threw ourselves into the spirit of competition (I mean we will do anything for a beer Friday) and had what we thought was a pretty outstanding tree. One floor only used food items such as crackers and condiments and another was only allowed to work on their tree after hours (boo). Needless to say our tree blew the competition away.
This year we knew we needed to step up our game. I mean as the winners of the last competition we knew we had to “beat” ourselves. Well forks that is EXACTLY what we did. For 2 days straight one of my co-workers decorated our Ficus with a little help from myself and a few others. We are fortunate that our marketing group is pretty awesome so they had some wonderful ideas and helped out. I almost felt as though we were cheating having them on our team. After 2 days of cutting and copying we had a tree that was worthy of a win. It had focus and direction, a color scheme and was pretty darn amazing, if I do say so myself. (Everyone else thought it was amazing too, I think even Martha Stewart would like it.) Well apparently not everyone thought it was amazing, because son of a bitch we lost! Yeah we were all shocked.
After the winner was announced a few people went next door to see the winning tree. Let me just say that the bar we set last year was not met. (And I’m going to tell you the tree we did last year pales in comparison to this year’s tree.) It seemed pretty obvious to several of us that they didn’t just stick to “office supply” items. Our group tried to be diligent and follow the rules, for the most part. 😉 But really we we used items we had.
So I don’t have pic of the winning tree for 2011 but I do have a pics of our trees from both years. As you will see the 2011 tree should have set the gold standard for Ficus tree decorating.
2010
As you can see we were pretty creative. We used what we had and it was a pretty good tree. Good enough to win the prize last year. And that pic is not even the finished tree, it was close but not finished.
2011
But this year’s tree. Well what can you say?!?!?! It’s specatacular. We used balloons as a tree skirt. Spider webs from Halloween for snow and clouds. We used solo cups as spiral thingys. We even hung a PHONEBOOTH from the sky!!!!! Please tell me how this is NOT a winning tree?
