Back on the bandwagon
for this week. I finally weighed myself the other day and nearly died when I saw the number….I’m back to what I consider my “heavy” weight so that means my lazy ass is back on the elliptical. And I’ve decided to add a few random exercises like push ups and jumping jacks to the list. Plus this helps me stretch a little.
Anyone who knows me knows how incredible UN-flexible I am. Like super unflexible. Even as long and lanky kid I wasn’t flexible like the other girls. I can only blame this on my mom for not letting me take ballet lessons as a kid. {She didn’t like the ballet teacher.} HMPH! Anyway, for years I’ve tried, sporadically of course, to get more flexible. But that, just like my random work-outs, never actually last too long. Normally I manage to injure my knee right about the time I’m finding my work-out stride. No kidding, damn things are always giving out or up or something.
As a kid, like a little kid, I was a cheerleader and we had to wear Keds as part of our uniform. I would come home and my feet and ankles would be swollen. Our only thought is that I did some damage to my knees with that and as I got older the soft spots behind my knee caps never toughened up like they should. In college I hurt my knee moving, to the point I ended up in physical therapy. The therapist said my hips were out of alignment. Weird. After that, my knees would bother me on and off but nothing too bad until I moved to NC. I was on a work-out kick, thanks to the Exercise on Demand channel, and something I did pulled something and I ended up with a bum knee and a dent in my thigh. Like a really noticable dent. It definitely freaked me out. Back to the orthopedist I went. He did some x-rays but nothing showed up so I went back to PT. The dent got a little better after a few sessions but it took months to actually heal and look normal. Funny thing is I don’t remember it actually hurting. It just looked weird as hell.
Anyway we’ll see how long this latest kick lasts.

It’s like a new room
Only it’s not. Over the weekend Matt and I FINALLY painted our bedroom! WOOO HOOO! This was the last “room” that needed to be painted before new carpet. We started Sunday afternoon with the expectation it would take us 2 days. I mean we even went to Lowe’s and bought a ladder.
Anyway once we got started, the paint flew on the walls and before we knew it we already had the 2 larger walls done. Two coats done. At this point I think it was probably only about 3pm and we didn’t start till after 1. With that we moved the furniture around again and started on the other 2 walls. Matt taped and I started painting the trim. You see, we’ve figured out the secret to nice lines, is a thin coat of white (or your base paint) on the moldings. Give it a few minutes, or half an hour, and begin painting. Before we knew it we were done with the whole room and it wasn’t even time for dinner. We’ve definitely gotten better and quicker. 😉
By 7pm the room was back to normal, all the paint stuff was put away and Matt was grilling dinner. We couldn’t believe just how quickly the painting had gone. But man was it nice to know we would have Monday free.
*You can’t really see the color but it’s the same as our spare room, which apparently I never blogged. 😉
As we were putting the room back in order I made Matt put our “ugly” chest up against the wall a different way which puts it behind the door and man oh man does the room feel different for me. You see the “ugly” chest had been pushed up against my bedside table for forever! When I moved in we ended up putting all my furniture in our guest room. That left Matt’s room with a bed, one bedside table, ugly chest and a TV stand and TV. Of course I hated this arrangement so we bought some bedside tables from Walmart and my mom gave us my old bedroom set, like from when I was a kid. Now our bedroom has a light colored bed and ugly chest along with black chest of drawers, dresser and beside tables. This is really not ideal and we will be getting new furniture shortly after we get new carpet.
I also decided it was time to change out the prints above the bed. You can see the originals here. I have to say this is one of the cheapest and easiest projects I’ve done. For the cost of 4 frames and couple of pieces of scrapbook paper you can make art. And then change it should you paint the room, move to a different place, relocate the pics. Whatever! It’s simple.
So that is kind of what we did over the holiday weekend. We actually got a lot done. 🙂

Eh….
This week has been pretty much hellacious. If it could go wrong it did. I’ve had stuff blowing up for 2 days now. So all I can say is long weekend please hurry! I need you ASAP.
Matt and I don’t have any plans for this weekend. Though I think I am going to try to talk him into painting our bedroom. We’ll have to borrow a ladder from some friends so we can reach the ceiling. Basically I think our room will be a complete pain in the ass to paint but I know it will look so much better when it’s done. Plus paint = new carpet. You know I’ve only been saying new carpet for like 6 months now. But I am sooo ready to make this happen. New CARPET!!!!! Wooo hoooo!

A rose by any other name
Would still be a rose. 😉 And currently there is a new knock-out rose bush sitting on my deck. I decided to buy one over the weekend. I talked to my mom and she assured me they are very hardy and love lots of sun. Since our deck gets full sun most of the day I thought it would be a great for it to live. Plus this way I will see it and I might actually remember to water it. 🙂
And pretty picture time. 🙂
P.S. I promise I am working on the NYC stuff. Just Sunday and night pics left.

Bad Words
Not in the traditional sense of *%*$% bad words but in the South there are words you learn not to say as a kid. I’m talking about soda, pop, you guys and a host of other “Northern” words. I remember using the word Coke for anything soda related. And you NEVER said hey you guys! If it wasn’t ya’ll you were not Southern.
As I’ve grown, and moved really, I find myself constantly saying the words soda and you guys. I never say Coke unless I actually mean Coke. I rarely say ya’ll either and I never blog it. I think it’s funny that over the course of years things change, even your speech. As a kid I wouldn’t have dreamed I would use these words. Those were “Northern” words and I was a good Southern Belle. 🙂
So while some Southern has started to come out more, like my love for growing things (it is not gardening ;). The Northern has come out more in my speech. I guess as I’ve gotten older I no longer associate those words with being only a Northern thing. But I also try hard to keep my Southern accent at bay. There are certain words I don’t ever think will lose that Southern draw, like fire but since the age of 12 or so I have been very conscious of how I speak. God forbid I sound like a hick. 😉 Of course that is my own personal choice. But I do find there to be a difference between having a Southern draw and sounding like a hick.
Enough of my ramblings. I promise to start blogging our trip soon. Like maybe tonight.

One year
One year ago Matt and I were in St Lucia and at this very minute we had been married not even an hour. Today we are NYC taking a quick nap before we get ready to head to Scarpetta for dinner.
We decided our trip was our gift but we did get cards. I mean the 1st anniversary is paper. 😉
~To the man I was lucky enough to marry one year ago today, I love you more then you will ever know. I couldn’t dream of finding a better person to spend my life with. You take care of me, you laugh with and at me 😉 but mostly you are you and that’s what I love the most. Here’s to the next fifty! <3 ~k

This is what happens
When 2 people who love cars marry……
So Matt is a car lover and has always had nice cars, as in 3 Audis. I too am a car lover, or more like a car leaver. There was a time in my life when I averaged a new (and by new I mean used) car every 18 months or so. Well the plan had been that I would get the Q5 next year when the Jetta lease was up and then Matt would get a new (or used) car.
As it happened a friend of ours works at the Audi dealership and last week he brought home a BMW 135i that had recently been traded. You see Matt has been lusting after this car for a few months now so when J offered to bring it home and let us drive it we said HELL YES! This my friends, was the beginning of the end. Matt drove first and I was like yeah it’s nice, very small. Then I drove. O. M. G! From there I was in love! The car was amazing and amazingly fast.
J talked to Matt and they tried to work out a deal but the numbers just didn’t add up so Matt started looking. He found 2 cars that would do, one in Wilmington and one in Atlanta. After a few days of negotiating Matt finally got the deal we were looking for on the Wilmington car. As it happened, his parents were in town last night so they were able to drive him down today to pick up the new car.
So now we have this…..
Yes I know it is completely impractical but what the hell! You only live once! 😀
~Tomorrow Matt and I will head to NYC to celebrate ONE whole year of marriage! WOOO HOOO! We did it!

Be the Change…
Well NC took that to a whole new level yesterday. Unless you’ve been living under a rock you probably heard about the Amendment that passed yesterday. {If you would like to know more click here.} Well I did my civic duty and went to the poll after work to vote. This is just a primary election but I felt the passage of this Amendment was worthy of my “against” vote.
I won’t go into a lot of explanation, you can read for yourself, but it makes me very sad that as a society we continue to vote for inequality. What’s worse is only 35% of the registered voters in NC went to the polls yesterday.
I think the worst part is people are so narrow sighted they can’t see that this amendment doesn’t just ban gay marriage, something that is currently banned in NC anyway, it takes away rights of ALL non married partnerships gay or straight. Not to mention the harm it could do to those in domestic abuse situations. This is structured similar to the Ohio amendment which allowed some of those convicted of domestic violence to be released. It makes me very sad that, in 2012, we can’t just move past the gay issue. And that people would be so bothered by this that they would do more harm then good.

PS I have a surprise for tomorrow. 😉
