Look at this face!
The other night Julio was sleeping with his eyes open. He was O.U.T! I take every opportunity to take his pic when he is being cute but most of the time he’s never that out of it and he will move. The other night though he was exhausted apparently because he didn’t even flintch when I took the pic.

This ain’t a fashion blog!
But every now and then I actually have fashion stuff so here goes.
Last weekend Matt and I went to his parents house to the beach. I mentioned his cousin Emma was in town, well as we were leaving his dad wanted a few pics of the 3 of us. Later his mom posted the pics on fb. After seeing those pics I decided I wasn’t really digging my long hair. Now mind you I’ve been growing it since before the wedding but seeing made me realize I was ready for a change. Not a huge change but a change so I made a hair appt for Saturday. When I got the salon I showed the girl a pic and told her to cut it. Aside from my bangs being just a tad too short I am really happy. The length feels good and I think it looks pretty cute. I also think it makes me look younger, though I’m not sure that’s on the plus side. 😉 ( posting from my iPad so the pic is at the bottom.)
I also wanted to share a little makeup tip since I’m fashion blogging today. A while back a blog I follow on twitter mentioned she was using Olay total effects 7 moisturizer. A little research said it was suppose to improve your skin tone. Well I have pretty crappy skin tone so I love to try things that might help to even it out. I even switched to Clinique’s even better foundation. (Matt wasn’t having the $80.00 for a bottle of the even better serum so this was the next best thing.) The foundation was just a tad heavier then I really wanted for summer and while we were in NYC I decided to compare that with my Bare Minerals. I decided I was digging the Clinique but I wanted it a little lighter so I added some of my Olay total effects to the foundation and blended them on my skin……ahhh perfection. It adds just the right coverage without feeling to heavy. I finish with my BM mineral veil powder to set the look. For me this is a great solution plus I am tone correcting. And to be honest I do feel like my skin tone looks a little more even in the few weeks I’ve been doing this.
I would definitely recommend both products to anyone looking for a change or those who might need a little tone correcting.

Changes
I feel like life has been busy and boring all at the same time. This weekend Matt and I headed to the beach to spend some time with his cousin Emma who is visiting from London. The girls had a nice day on the beach while the guys played golf. I actually got some sun. While we were on our cruise I tried hard not to get burnt fearing I would have to stay out of the sun for the rest of the trip but this I said to hell with it. I only got a little toasty considering we stayed out from 11 – 4. But man I really needed some color!
Work has been crazy busy the last few days because of some changes, good changes actually. My manager took another position and my group was absorbed into another group. Now I will no longer be doing the things I didn’t like and will be able to focus more on the stuff I did like. It seems this new change might be pretty good. I wasn’t so sure last week but having met with the new folks makes me excited.
Crazy the difference a few days can make.

Best husband award
Goes to my husband. I came home today and there was anew iPad on the counter waiting for me! Yay! Over the past few weeks I’ve started mentioning I might like an iPad, not a new one but a refurb would be fine. Matt got one for Christmas and we have the HP touchpad, which is okay but I can’t sync all my apps. Anyway the plan had been to wait until my laptop died before I would get an iPad but lately I have been using my phone for almost everything but blogging. It’s so big and bulky and I will go days without even opening it. That’s when when I decided to jump on the iPad bandwagon. And now I have a cute white iPad with a bright green cover. 🙂

If the Zombies come
I feel like I should be prepared, you know to run for my life. I mentioned I was back on the work-out wagon. My goal, run 1 mile and not die! I’ve decided a good pace is between 4.5 and 5.0 miles per hour. I know it’s slow but it’s something. Today I managed to go .75 at that rate! Wooo Hooo! I figure if I can run a mile hopefully I can survive a Zombie attack. 😉
Watch out Zombies, I’m getting in shape!

From drab to FAB!
I mentioned that Matt and I went to Southpoint on Saturday. After lunch we headed towards the mall part, it’s kind of an indoor outdoor mall, but I wanted to stop by Anthropolgie on the way in. It’s super pricey and I never even look at the clothes but I do like to look at the random housewares. As I was browsing I noticed 2 big shelves full of knobs. Oh heck yeah! There’s a desk in our foyer I’ve been planning to refinish but I wanted to find new knobs.
Anyway I probably stood there looking at all the knobs for about 10 minutes. I asked Matt about a couple but he wasn’t very helpful. Then he noticed there were a few buckets of clearance knobs. These knobs were all 3.00 a piece instead of 8.00 – 10.00 for the regular ones. Don’t get me wrong 8-10 bucks a knob isn’t bad but for 3.00 a piece I could get 4 knobs for the price of two and don’tcha know that’s exactly what I did. 🙂 I found 2 sets I really liked but I couldn’t choose so I bought both.
Thankfully I am a procrastinator and I didn’t want to paint my desk last weekend because it was too hot. Well this weekend was amazing and a bit cooler so Sunday morning
afternoonI started working on the desk. First I sanded the top and sides with my mouse sander. Then I grabbed some course grit sand paper and began working on the legs. Legs are such a pain when they are spindley. Since I was going to paint the desk I knew I didn’t have to do a great job with the sanding. I just needed to knock the varnish off.I spent about 45 minutes sanding down my desk before I decided it was good. I picked out a bright blue paint so I wanted to make the piece look distressed and old. As I started painting on the top I found if I did a light enough coat I could almost dry brush the paint on. This was kind of giving me the effect I wanted so I continued. As the paint dried I touched up a few spots here and there but over all I think it turned out pretty good and I didn’t have to use any sandpaper to the finished paint job. 🙂

Aww we’re growing up!
On Saturday Matt and I went to Mebane to the outlet mall. We found a few items but nothing great so we stopped at Southpoint Mall in Durham. I really wanted to go to Crate and Barrel and look around. I ended up finding a great bookshelf for the living room. I’ve been on the hunt for a new one for the past couple of weeks but I couldn’t seem to find the right size for the right price.
As we were perusing C&B I found a great “ladder” type shelf which is kind of what I was looking for and the price was great, for C&B. 🙂 I mentioned to Matt I liked it and we kept walking. We were about to leave the store when he asked if there was anything I wanted, the shelf of course. He said to find someone to check us out. WOO HOO! Thankfully we were in the Q so the shelf fit just fine. 🙂
That night Matt put together our new shelf and I must say I love Love LOVE it! I finally have a place to put stuff. You see before Matt I actually had decorations and what not sitting around. When I moved to his house there wasn’t much space for my awesomeness so I’ve had things tucked away for a while. As soon as it was up I immediately ran downstairs to grab some books. Then I went upstairs to grab a few other items. Before I knew it it was almost full. I just need 2 small plate holders and a pic of Matt and I for a frame and I think I will be good for a little while. {He told me I couldn’t buy anything for it.} Such a decorating bah humbug that Matt is. hehe
Before – the UGLY ass CD/DVD holder, which will no longer live in the den. It is being banished to somewhere that is not in the house!
After – Awesomeness that actually looks like a real adult house. 😉

Back on the bandwagon
for this week. I finally weighed myself the other day and nearly died when I saw the number….I’m back to what I consider my “heavy” weight so that means my lazy ass is back on the elliptical. And I’ve decided to add a few random exercises like push ups and jumping jacks to the list. Plus this helps me stretch a little.
Anyone who knows me knows how incredible UN-flexible I am. Like super unflexible. Even as long and lanky kid I wasn’t flexible like the other girls. I can only blame this on my mom for not letting me take ballet lessons as a kid. {She didn’t like the ballet teacher.} HMPH! Anyway, for years I’ve tried, sporadically of course, to get more flexible. But that, just like my random work-outs, never actually last too long. Normally I manage to injure my knee right about the time I’m finding my work-out stride. No kidding, damn things are always giving out or up or something.
As a kid, like a little kid, I was a cheerleader and we had to wear Keds as part of our uniform. I would come home and my feet and ankles would be swollen. Our only thought is that I did some damage to my knees with that and as I got older the soft spots behind my knee caps never toughened up like they should. In college I hurt my knee moving, to the point I ended up in physical therapy. The therapist said my hips were out of alignment. Weird. After that, my knees would bother me on and off but nothing too bad until I moved to NC. I was on a work-out kick, thanks to the Exercise on Demand channel, and something I did pulled something and I ended up with a bum knee and a dent in my thigh. Like a really noticable dent. It definitely freaked me out. Back to the orthopedist I went. He did some x-rays but nothing showed up so I went back to PT. The dent got a little better after a few sessions but it took months to actually heal and look normal. Funny thing is I don’t remember it actually hurting. It just looked weird as hell.
Anyway we’ll see how long this latest kick lasts.

It’s like a new room
Only it’s not. Over the weekend Matt and I FINALLY painted our bedroom! WOOO HOOO! This was the last “room” that needed to be painted before new carpet. We started Sunday afternoon with the expectation it would take us 2 days. I mean we even went to Lowe’s and bought a ladder.
Anyway once we got started, the paint flew on the walls and before we knew it we already had the 2 larger walls done. Two coats done. At this point I think it was probably only about 3pm and we didn’t start till after 1. With that we moved the furniture around again and started on the other 2 walls. Matt taped and I started painting the trim. You see, we’ve figured out the secret to nice lines, is a thin coat of white (or your base paint) on the moldings. Give it a few minutes, or half an hour, and begin painting. Before we knew it we were done with the whole room and it wasn’t even time for dinner. We’ve definitely gotten better and quicker. 😉
By 7pm the room was back to normal, all the paint stuff was put away and Matt was grilling dinner. We couldn’t believe just how quickly the painting had gone. But man was it nice to know we would have Monday free.
*You can’t really see the color but it’s the same as our spare room, which apparently I never blogged. 😉
As we were putting the room back in order I made Matt put our “ugly” chest up against the wall a different way which puts it behind the door and man oh man does the room feel different for me. You see the “ugly” chest had been pushed up against my bedside table for forever! When I moved in we ended up putting all my furniture in our guest room. That left Matt’s room with a bed, one bedside table, ugly chest and a TV stand and TV. Of course I hated this arrangement so we bought some bedside tables from Walmart and my mom gave us my old bedroom set, like from when I was a kid. Now our bedroom has a light colored bed and ugly chest along with black chest of drawers, dresser and beside tables. This is really not ideal and we will be getting new furniture shortly after we get new carpet.
I also decided it was time to change out the prints above the bed. You can see the originals here. I have to say this is one of the cheapest and easiest projects I’ve done. For the cost of 4 frames and couple of pieces of scrapbook paper you can make art. And then change it should you paint the room, move to a different place, relocate the pics. Whatever! It’s simple.
So that is kind of what we did over the holiday weekend. We actually got a lot done. 🙂
