  • Friday Tradition

When Matt and I first began dating, we worked pretty close to each other.  Just a few miles apart really.  At some point we began to have Friday lunches together.  It was fun to look forward to Friday amd our standing lunch date.  Of course there have been Friday’s that we weren’t able to meet for one reason or another but it hasn’t been too often.

I was worried when Matt started looking for a new job that he would end up someplace too far for our weekly dates.  But as luck would have it we are still close enough to meet for lunch.  And we normally go to the same spot we have been for almost 3 years.  Crazy huh?  I love our little tradition.

    Happy Friday!

  • We got a new toy!

A few weeks ago Matt tried to order an HP touchpad.  The company decided to discontinue their touchpads and put them on clearance for $99.00.  For that price we decided to try and get one.  We figured that for 100 bucks it was worth it.  If we used it great, if not we didn’t have a lot invested.

After Matt place the initial order, it was cancelled.  Then last week Matt got an email saying the company was getting more in and were going to honor those orders that had been cancelled.  Hot dog!  Matt immediately replaced our order and bam today we get our touchpad.

Of course I decided I should blog on it today.  But omg!  This thing is kind of a pain in the ass to type on.  I’m so used to my phone, I have Swype which is awesome, so this typing on a tablet BLOWS!

At least I have a cute stand.

  • Rain, rain go away!

Seriously I feel like I live in Seattle!  Where the hell did all of this rain come from?  Lately all it does is rain.  As I am sitting here now looking out the window, it looks like rain.  Now don’t get me wrong I love nothing more then a good thunderstorm but we aren’t really getting thunderstorms.  Nope just rain.  Rain, rain, rain, rain.

  • Weekend recap….in photos

After we dried out from Wednesday’s concert, Matt and I woke up Thursday morning to get ready to go to the beach.  It rained most of the way down there and a few times the bottom fell out.  On Friday we decided to run to the outlets since the weather didn’t look promising.  I think that was the right call.  We didn’t find much at the outlets so I was a little disappointed.  But we did run by Bass Pro Shop and bought me a nice pink WATER-PROOF pull over!  I have no clue if it is really water-proof but it says so on the tag!

    Saturday Matt and his dad woke up early and went to play golf.  A little later the girls got up.  While we were sitting around the breakfast table a nasty cloud popped up.  I decided to be optimistic and asked Emma, Matt’s cousin, if she wanted to anyway.  She said yes so me, her and Matt’s mom changed and headed out.  As luck would have it was a really nice day at the beach.  We stayed a few hours and even got burnt.  Later that afternoon we went over to Ocean Isle Beach.  The beach has started to erode.  Turns out at the end of the island 3rd Street is now ocean front.  {Note at the other end 1st Street is ocean front}

That was pretty much our weekend.  On Sunday morning we packed up and headed home.  But not before it rained a little more!  Ughh!

  • About last night

First off I want to say Happy Birthday to Matt!  Today he turns 33, ahhhhhh!  🙂  I love you honey and I hope you have a great day!  xxxx

Now about last night.  A few months ago Matt heard the band Fleet Foxes were coming to town the night before his birthday.  He bought tickets and we decided to take Thursday {and Friday} off since the concert would be on a Wednesday night.

As I’m driving home last night I see a really big dark cloud headed for Raleigh and I knew the weatherman had mentioned it could rain.  Once I get home Matt and I get ready to head down town.  We grab a couple of windbreakers and I decide to wear my boots.  We get down town and grab a bite to eat at Raleigh Times and then make our way to the amphitheater.  About as soon as we step out of the bar it begins to rain.  Just a little bit, which is fine.  I’ve pretty much decided it will be a futile attempt to even worry about my hair so I immediately pull it back.

We get to the venue and meet up with a couple of friends.  We are all standing around and the rain picks up a little more.  No big deal really.  We finally head to our seats and the band starts playing.  Just as they start the lightning begins.  Of course the crowd goes wild.  Music and a light show, provided by Mother Nature.  {Let me just mention the band sounded AMAZING in concert!}  The rain steadily picks up and about half an hour into the show the bottom pretty much falls out.  Everyone is now drenched and Matt and I just keep laughing about the current situation.  By this point not only is my windbreaker completely soaked but so am I.  {I’m just going to state this windbreaker was pretty much a piece of shit!}  I’m still hanging in there and then I realize my jeans are now completely soaked through. Ughh!  There is almost nothing worse then wet jeans!  At this point I’m almost done, but not quite.  And then the PA system gets staticey.  To the point you can no longer hear the band and the crowd takes over.  It was pretty cool honestly.

The band tries to continue on but I guess the venue said they would need to take a break to figure out what was wrong.  At this point I am done. I told Matt if they stopped we were leaving.  He pretty much agreed since neither of us figured they would go back on.  We headed back for the car and OMG the rain was crazy.  Everything was starting to flood.  Water was coming out of the sewers.  Honestly it was kind of fun.  I might have jumped in some puddles. 😉

By the time we got back to the car we were completely soaked through.  I had water IN my boots.  We pretty much stripped down behind the car, that was parked on the street, in the middle of downtown.  Yep we are those people!  HA  We ended up driving home in our skeevies.  We joked about how funny it would be if we got pulled over.  “Mr Edwards, can I ask why you are driving in your boxers?  Ma’am where are your clothes?”  HAHAH!

We finally made it home around 10:30 and immediately hopped in the shower to warm up.  Unfortunately we don’t have any pics from last night.  I’m sure we would look AWESOME though!

  • Weekend recap

This weekend was crazy busy.  We dropped my mom off at the airport on Saturday, had just enough time to eat lunch and watch the first half of the Auburn game before heading back to the airport.  We were able to watch Matt’s cousin, Emma’s, plane arrive.  Then we had to wait about an hour for her to clear immigration.  Apparently RDU had one person checking in non citizens!  Thanks RDU!

Yesterday afternoon Matt’s parents drove up, they were planning to take Emma to Asheville today.  Last night we all went out to dinner at Coquette to celebrate Matt’s birthday.  I must say dinner was amazing like always.  It’s always nice time going out to dinner with his family.

Thankfully Matt and I have one more day of work left for the week.  Tomorrow night we are going to see the Fleet Foxes in concert.  We decided to take Thursday and Friday off.  We might head to the beach for a few days as well.  I could use a good shopping trip. 😉

  • I’ve got linens!

Okay so the past few days have been really boring and my blog has really suffered.  It’s so weird how once I get home it seems so hard to find something to write about.  Last night I mentioned Matt and I had been cleaning up for our guests.  While we were straightening up the extra room {note I don’t call this the guest room because it is really just an extra room with a bed, later it will become our nursery} I decided I wanted to add a little something to the bedside table/tv tray.

A few years back my grandmother gave me tons of old table cloths and napkins and linens.  When I was single and living by myself I would host girl’s nights at my apartment.  I would always take the time to find the right table cloth for the night and set my table.  Most of the table cloths my grandmother gave me are pretty old and stained, either from time or something that set in 40+ years ago.  Normally I will layer a few of them to hide this or that.  But anyway, I decided to look through them last night to see if I could find something to half way cover the table.  I started with a white cloth with red, yellow and grey stripes.  That one seemed to plain so next I grabbed a pretty red and white checkered pattern.  This one has some cute stitching on the edges but I still didn’t like it.  Then I found a super cute one with blue and yellow birds.  And that was it.  It looked really cute on the tray but I noticed a few stains right in the middle.  I grabbed a doily and voila!  Spots eliminated.

Later I started thinking about all the linens I have from my grandmother that aren’t really usable anymore.  A few are still okay and I do use them on occasion but there are quite a few that I would either never use, due to pattern or stains or tears.  I’m thinking maybe I could take all of these old linens and make some sort of quilt from them.  Granted I have no idea how to make a quilt but I’m sure my friend Google could help me.  I mean this way I could cut out the bad pieces and use the good ones.  I have no idea how this would turn out but it would get free up some space.  I currently have at least 3 drawers full of linens.

I’ll try to remember to take a few pics of the “dressed up” tv tray and post them.

  • Not much about not a lot

Matt and I began cleaning up for all of our weekend guests tonight.  Tomorrow my cousin Krissy brings my mom back for the night.  We’re not sure yet if Krissy will also stay the night.  On Saturday we will take mom to the airport and about an hour after her flight leaves, Matt’s cousin Emma will fly in.  She will be here through Tuesday then Matt’s parents will take her to Asheville for a few days.  Needless to say we are going to be pretty busy this weekend.

  • It’s the 13th

    And that means it’s our 4 monthiversary!  Wooo Hooo! The months feel like they are flying by.  {I promise I will stop when we hit 1 year}

I am such a good wifey I made Matte dinner tonight.  We had noodles with vodka sauce.  So yummy.

Happy monthiversary hon!  I love you!

  • Toilets and fixtures

About a year and a half ago our upstairs (and by upstairs I mean our main floor) toilet began to leak.  One weekend while Matt’s parents were up he and his dad decided to fix the toilet.  They took the tank off to replace the seal.  As they were putting it back on Matt over tightened one of the nuts and BAM!  A corner of the tank broke off.  I was sitting in the den when I heard a THUD, WHOOSH!  Of course all the water poured out of the tank to the floor.  Once the mess was cleaned up Matt decided that instead of just buying a new tank or toilet he would just replace it with the tank from the downstairs bathroom.  Not really a big deal considering we never use that toilet.

Now a year and a half later we just now bought a new toilet.  We still need to finish painting downstairs so at some point Matt will remove the old broken toilet and I will paint the bathroom.  Oh joy!

This weekend while we were at Lowe’s looking for toilets we also looked at new bathroom fixtures.  I had looked on the website earlier in the week and found something I thought would work pretty well that wasn’t too expensive.  As it turns out, Lowe’s is in the process of discontinuing most of their chrome fixtures.  Dammit!  It’s not that I mind the brushed nickel or the oil rubbed bronze it’s just those are quite a bit more then I really want to spend.  I guess we will be making a trip to Home Depot soon.
