  • The “Southern” is coming out!

What I mean by this is the “southern” love of gardening is starting to come out. My whole life I have been all bah humbug about gardening. Honestly I couldn’t really think of anything I really cared less for but now, now I have the bug. It started with a few random plants in the house. Since I’ve managed to actually keep a couple alive for a few years I’m starting to get more adventurous.

You may remember the herbal disaster of last summer but let’s get real, our deck gets SOOO much mid-day sun I think I would be hard pressed to find anything that would grow there. But this hasn’t discouraged me. The orchid I got for Valentine’s day last year is still alive. Granted I don’t think I will ever bloom again but it’s still growing. Then there are the hostas from last year. One of which made it though the winter in the garage with minimal sun and no water. Let’s not forget the begonia’s I planted a few weeks ago and now, now I have gone and done it.

For a while now I’ve really really wanted a hydrangea. There is a townhouse on the other street that has a few hydrangeas on the side of their house. I thought about doing the same thing but after talking to my mom she said our side would probably get too much sun. Well crap. But then she told me she’d had really good luck growing them in planters while she was in NC. Aaaaaahhh!

With this new found knowledge I told Matt we were going to Lowe’s to buy one Friday after work. After searching through the lot I finally found the one I wanted. It is right on the edge of blooming and the flowers should be pink. It was a bit more then I really wanted to spend but with Lowe’s guarantee, I thought what the hell. If it dies in the first year I can take it back and get a refund. So my 20 bucks won’t be a waste. Once I found the right plant I found a cute {okay let’s be real it’s decent at best} pot but it works and it wasn’t super expensive. If it does well this year I might invest in a better pot next year but for it’s fine.

And here it is, my new awesome hydrangea bush. EEKKK!

  • Under Construction

I am on another “creative” kick so over the next few days I will hopefully be giving the blog a face lift.  While I was looking for inspiration the other day I found another blog theme that might be really awesome should I figure it out.  One would think having a husband who works in IT would be helpful but I’m not sure how much Matt will be helpful.  Love ya hun! 😉 So should you see some wonky things going on just ignore it and come back later.  I hope (like really hope) I can get this up by next week.

  • Let there be light!

Matt and I were very busy over the weekend.  On Saturday we drove to VA Beach for the day to see my friend Brandi and her new baby, Brooklyn.  Brooklyn was an absolute doll.  There is nothing sweeter then a baby sleeping in your arms making little baby coos.

Saturday the in-laws drove up to get Matt’s aunt and grandmother.  They flew in from London for vacation.  After lunch Matt and I headed to Target to grab a few things.  As we were browsing we came across some cute solar powered lights for the walkway.  Now we don’t really need little lights to line the sidewalk because we keep our porch lights on but they were just too cute to pass up and at $5.00 each I thought they were a steal.  When we got home we immediately put them in the ground and “ahhhhhhhhhh” they look awesome!  You can’t see them from the street really but I know they are there.

  • One more thing

about our cruise.  I’ve been meaning to blog this but I just keep forgetting.

We had a great dinner staff as I mentioned on the travel blog but I have failed to mention our wine attendant Ronald.  He was super friendly and always moving from table to table telling jokes or teaching the kids magic tricks.  We got to know him pretty well since we normally ordered a bottle of wine with dinner.

One night he noticed a wine cork sitting beside my plate.  He went to grab it then asked if I collected them.  I told him I did collect corks and had a huge vase at home full of them.  He asked if I would like more.  Of course as I am nodding my head yes, Matt is shaking his head no.  “She doesn’t need anymore corks.”  Ronald told me he would start working on a collection for me.  Needless to say I was super excited, though I really hoped he didn’t show up with a trash bag full. 🙂

    Our last night on the cruise Ronald came over and gave me a cute little box filled with corks.  Aww!  It was so sweet and cute and such a nice little gift.  {I’m sure he does it for everyone, but it did make me feel pretty special.}

Now I just need to find a good place to put it.

  • Road Rage

Mine seems to be a little out of control lately.  Or maybe it’s just there are a ton of idiot drivers lately, umm yeah I think that’s probably it. 😉  It blows my mind that people refuse to use blinks or the gas pedal while turning or going up hills.  OMG people, it’s really not that hard.  The gas pedal is on the right.  Just push it a little bit.

Clearly my life is super boring since I am sitting here bitching about drivers.  But really my life is super boring right now.  Our cruise is over and we’ve booked our NYC trip.  The only exciting thing happening is my trip to see my friend Brandi and her new baby this weekend!  YAY!  I am super excited to meet this cute little doll.  I’ll post some pics next week.

  • Our weekend – in pics

Okay so I really have no inspiration right now so you get videos and pics!  😉  But in my defense we did a lot this weekend and I think pics are really the less boring way to get through this.

As I mentioned we bought a new patio set and I love it!  It is just what we needed.  The deck isn’t that big so we didn’t need a really big set.  In fact I don’t think we really even needed 4 chairs, hence we bought 2 (see Friday’s post for pics.)

Then on Saturday we painted our guest room, finally!  I feel like this was one pain after the other.  First, I’m an idiot and got the wrong color.  Oopsy.  Thankfully it is a color I absolutely LOVE!  It’s our downstairs color called Tempered Allspice by Valspar.  I had planned to paint this room our all over color, Mesa something I think.  Then we ran out of paint about halfway through the second coat.  Luckily we had 2 more cans downstairs.  Unluckily, we noticed the old can of paint seemed to be just a touch lighter.  Grrr!  The only thing we can think of is the first coat had primer in it but the second didn’t.  I didn’t think that would affect the color but clearly I was wrong so after 2 coats I was done.  Well Matt is totally anal and decided by the time we ran to Lowe’s to get another little can with primer he could just repaint the whole room.  I told him I did not like this idea and I wasn’t helping.  And no I don’t feel bad.  We could have gone over the edges later.  Anyway here is the almost finished product. I just need to change the bed skirt and hang curtains, which I have.

On Sunday I planted some begonia’s out front.  We have this weird little strip between the driveway and the porch so I decided it needed a little color.  I think they look great.  Now I just need them to live. 🙂

And a cute pic of the daredevil himself.  This is where I found him when I came inside last night.  And no, this is NOT where he should be!

    Happy Tuesday!

  • For your viewing pleasure!

Matt and I were super busy this weekend. We got the guest room painted, bought a new patio set, and I planted some flowers out front. But it appears we have some leaky toilets so instead of showing you all the cool stuff we did I’m going to post a video of Julio sporting his new harness.

Dumbass channeled his inner Puss in Boots and jumped off the deck Friday night. It’s only about 15 feet to the ground. Thankfully he was fine but now he’s sporting a cool new kitty harness.

    Happy Monday!

  • The last one

Monthiversary that is.  We are finally to month 11 and wouldn’t you know it’s on Friday the 13th.  Matt and I decided to make this one a little extra special since we will be in NYC next month so I popped open a bottle of bubbly (a bottle we received as a wedding gift) to go with our Five Guys.  That’s right, we are keeping it classy over here. 😉

Once I got home Matt and I ran to Lowe’s to pick up some more paint and to buy a new patio set.  Thank you AMEX!  We had some more cash back so we decided to buy a new table and chairs.  It didn’t hurt that I almost died the other day when I sat in one of the old chairs.  The bottom literally fell out.  Oopsy.  I love the cushions we got too.  They are reversible and very bright, and not to mention cheap.

    20120413-200543.jpg

I should also mention Julio decided to see if he could fly tonight.  Yeah, he decided to jump off the deck.  He seems to be fine but I had to chase his little ass all the way to the end of the buildings.  Needless to say he got spanked and he won’t be going out, even on the deck, without his harness from now on.  Crazy cat!

Happy 11th monthiversary Matte!  You are the best husband a girl could have and I am thankful each day I found you.  Even when times are tough you are amazing and I love you more each day!

  • The blog is sick :(

Ughh so this week hasn’t been great.  I haven’t felt good the last few days and then we realized today the blog apparently has some sort of weird stuff going on.  Matt is currently working with the host to figure out what the problem is.  Hopefully it will be resolved soon.

  • Gloomy gray?

I think not! Over the weekend Matt and I painted our spare room a light gray and I love the color. It will looks great and was the neutral I was looking for.

One bedroom down two to go until I get new carpet. Whoop whoop.
