Ups and downs
This week has been full of them. It started Wednesday when I got to work only to find the power was out and I had to turn around and work from home – that didn’t suck. But I did get some disappointing news that morning. Then on Matt’s way home, he was rear ended. Thankfully both him and the car were okay. Well the bumper on the car is a little messed and if the car weren’t actually only a few months old we probably wouldn’t even fix it. Since the car is new and someone else is paying the car will be fixed. Bumpers for BMWs aren’t cheap per the quote Matt got today.
We did get some good news this week. Mom and dad have their house up for sale and yesterday they found out they would be getting an offer. The offer came in today and it seems to be a pretty decent offer but they are still working out the details. As of now I’m still not sure what’s going on and I’m not sure they do either. Their plan is to sell the house and move to Raleigh. So lots of stuff is still up in the air with them.

A little this and that
This week is creeping by. Yesterday was sooo slow I thought I was going to die. This morning I wake up, get to work only to find out the power is out AGAIN! Ughh. I turned around and came home. It is so nice to have a laptop now. I have everything I need should I need to work from home.
I might have made a little time to do my nails. 🙂
You may remember this pic. Well this is what my begonias look like now. I think our little bunny friend did some snacking plus I think they took a pounding by all the rain. Oh yeah, I don’t think I’ve actually mentioned all the damn rain we’ve had lately. It’s crazy. It seems like almost everyday for the last few weeks we get rain. Like down pours. The rest of the country might be having a drought but people are going to start growing webbed feet around here it’s so wet.
I planted my begonias next to our porch. Our porch doesn’t have gutters so I think the rain runs off and right onto them. For a while they were doing pretty good but it looked like they were breaking at the roots. The rain is the only thing I could come up with. Then the bunny. But as you can see they are coming back. I’m pretty impressed since I haven’t done much with them. A few weekends ago I got out and put a little more soil around them and kind of pushed them back in the ground so I guess it worked.
Anyway back to work. I still have to paint my other hand. 😉

A little bit blah
Aside from the fact that Matt and I are super boring lately I feel like I’m in a little bit of a funk. I’m just kind of in a weird place right now. I know I will get over it but I feel like I need some change. (And not the work kind!)
I feel like it’s time to move on to another chapter but I don’t really know where that is or what it is or how to get there.
What started as a eh day turned into a crappy day pretty quick today. That’s always fun for a Monday. Nothing like Korn blaring in your ears. (Actually I rather enjoy that so some crazy reason. Somehow people yelling at me actually calms me down.)
Anyway I may try to work on a few craft projects this week and see if it won’t help me mood.

The strangest day!
This morning I got a call from a coworker around 7:20 saying a power line at our office had been cut and we were working from home. I finished up my hair and makeup, threw on some comfy clothes and set up shop on the kitchen table. It’s not super easy to work from home but having a work laptop (that I actually had at home) with all my links and passwords along with the VPN makes it much easier. Except when the main drive I use is down because the power is out, at work. Whomp whomp.
Around 10:00 I got an email saying the power was back on and everyone was to head in. I threw my jeans on and headed to the office. As soon as I walk in the door I realize this is gonna suck!!!! Of course the air is off and the building smells gross. The third floor was even worse. It was hot and muggy. Finally around noon, I’m contemplating lunch when our old manager comes over to say she has good news. The ac should be back on in half an hour but management has asked everyone to go to lunch, on them! Hell yeah. This was the point I was really glad I didnt pack my lunch.
A couple of my coworkers set out for lunch. When we got back the office was still hot but you could at least feel some air moving around. Finally around 3 the ac actually kicked in and it started to get chilly.
I’m not sure if I feel my day was productive or not but it was a strange day.

Pinterest Project – Watercolor State
Last week I bought some watercolors. I haven’t played with watercolor since I was a kid but I’ve been itching to get my hands on some kind of paint so I finally decided to make this project. Much to my surprise watercolors aren’t that expensive. Michael’s had several different sets starting at $5.00. I decided the $5.00 pack would be fine for now. If I find I’m painting a lot more I’ll invest in better supplies but for now this will do. I also grabbed a pack of brushes, a paint wheel, and a water color note pad. In total I spent 17 bucks and change. Not too shabby considering water colors will last forever.
On to the project. Here is my inspiration piece. I’ve seen this done with several different states and I thought, what the hey, I can do this! Last night I broke out the paints to see what I could still do. I definitely need to play around more with my watercolor but all in all I don’t think mine looks awful. (Well except for the yellow streaks.)
Finished product. As you can see it’s not bad, but it’s not good either. Again this was just my practice piece. And I lost it when I decided to add drip marks, ie the yellow streaks. I really just need to get familiar with my paints again and then I can find my way. I also might work a little more on my NC. This was just drawn free hand looking at a map online. I also need to work on my blending. 😀 Lots more to work on….
I have a feeling I will work on this again this week so watch out for another, better picture soon!

Cha cha chaaaannnges!
At work! Again!
Just when I think things are calming down crazy shit happens. I know I said this week would be crazy but I didn’t say why. Well our wireless brand republic wireless relaunched on Tuesday. We thought that we be stupid crazy but things when pretty quiet, until yesterday. Then we found put a different product is moving to another division. I am one of the “lucky” ones moving! I don’t think it will be horrible but it was just surprising. Tomorrow we will find out what the actual plan is. Until then the rumor mill is running wild. 😉
On a side note I ran to Michael’s today and bought some water colors. I haven’t paints with water color since I was a kid and I am looking forward to getting back into the swing of things. I have a couple of projects in mind so I will post as I complete them.

Hair bands – by the yard
As promised I went to Joann’s yesterday but alas, they did not have the elastic I was looking for. So I did a little research yesterday and found an Etsy dealer who sells elastic by the yard. You can buy 10 yards for $2.95. Add shipping to that and well for under $6.00 you could make hair bands until the cows come home, literally. 🙂 I don’t see my buying any bulk elastic for a while but just in case I now know I can find it on Etsy.
The next few weeks will be crazy at work, I can’t say much now but come next week I will write more. Basically I have no idea how much time I will have to blog in the next few weeks but I’ll do what I can. I have a few projects I’m thinking of starting and when I do I will track my progress.

Product Review – Twistband
A few weeks ago I saw this cool product called Twistbands in an email from my salon. At the time I was sleeping with my hair pulled up almost every night. My hair was longer and driving me crazy being down while I was trying to sleep. I’d been sleeping with my hair up for a couple of months when I started to see a lot of fly aways on the top of my head. At first I thought it was just new growth but the more I saw the more I started to think it was from the regular hair bands I was using.
When I got the email from my salon I looked up Twistbands to see what all the hype was about. Once I read the site I knew I had to have some. I love new products. The day I went to the salon I grabbed a 3 pack and cut my hair. 😉 Now I am no longer sleeping with my hair up because it’s shorter but I am still using the Twistband. So here’s my review:
To be perfectly honest, I think they are a waste of money. I paid $5.00 for 3. I could have gone to Joann’s and and bought this elastic for less I’m sure. (I haven’t been to Joann’s to look yet but I promise I will do this and report back.) Here are the problems I have with this product. First and foremost, I think they are over priced. Yes I know you have a make a profit but come on…..My second complaint is the quality. I paid 5.00 for 3 and they have raveled like nobodies business. This was something I easily solved with a lighter. And if we are being honest here, had the ends been seared and they hadn’t raveled I’d probably be a little happier overall. Basically this is a want product. Sure it does okay for my hair but I have short thin hair. Maybe I would think they were better if I had longer thicker hair.
I always wear the black one. See all the raveling? -
Guest bathroom – a sort of makeover
Over the weekend I was apparently super productive, okay not really but from the pics it looks like I was. 😉 A few weeks ago I decided I wanted a new shower curtain for the guest bathroom. I cannot, for the life of me, figure out what color I want to paint the guest bathroom so I decided a new shower curtain might help. Don’t get me wrong, I liked the one I had, but I just wasn’t really digging it anymore.
Matt and I were at Target a week or so ago and I decided to browse the shower curtains. I pretty much knew I was coming home with one but I was surprised at the assortment they had. The one I originally had my eye on just didn’t compare to a few others I found. I finally decided on a tealish blue one with geometric print. I really really like it. I feel like it really brightens up the bathroom. I plan to keep the brown rug but I am going to replace the decorative towels (shhh don’t tell Matt). Then I need to paint. And then I will accessorize. So basically it’s like half done. 🙂

In the closet
I think I mentioned in my carpet post that I had plans to rearrange the closet when we got everything back in order. Well I did just that on Saturday. We bought a shoe holder shelf for the closet and I’ve been waiting for Matt to put it in before we moved everything back to the closet.
The shelf we bought turned out to be a little too big for the closet so Matt cut in down and then installed it. It’s low and slanted so it doesn’t get in the way of our clothes but it is high enough off the floor that we can put shoes under it too. Mainly this is now where all of my shoes are. Matt’s shoes are in a shoe holder hanging on the door. {Basically we both have too many shoes!}
This is right after we put the shelf in.
The closet back in order.
I know it’s still kind of messy but there is only so much you can do with 2 people and 1 small closet. Anyway, I said I rearranged and I did. Before we had 2 plastic bins on the left hand side, to the front of the closet. This is our “dressing station.” Basically where we throw our jeans at night. 😉 Then Matt had this shorts and pants behind the bins. On the right bottom side he had all of his polo type shirts. I didn’t feel this was the best use of our space and, well I rearranged without him so I put stuff back where I wanted it. I moved the bins to the right hand side and now all of his clothes are to the left. My clothes are now along the back wall and on the top right shelf. To me, the closet feels a little more spacious and it allows me easier access to my shoes.
Oh and I just wanted to mention the shelving cost us about $20.00. This was much cheaper then other shoe holders and to me, gives us a lot more space.
