  • OCM – Day 3

    Over the weekend Matt and I ran some errands and while we were out we bought some Castor Oil and Sunflower Seed Oil.  Saturday night I started OCM (oil cleansing method).  As I mentioned a few days ago the thought is that by using “good” oil on your skin it will help get rid of the “bad” pore clogging oil and dirt.

    I used a 70/30 mixture of Sunflower Seed Oil to Castor Oil.  This is the recommended ratio for oily skin.  I must say it’s pretty weird to slather oil all over your face.  If you’re like me you spent a good portion of your teen years trying to remove as much oil as possible.  But as I got older I learned more and realized striping all the oil from your skin wasn’t a good idea either.

    Anyway, I messaged the oil into my skin while I let a wash cloth sit under the hot water.  Once I left I had sufficiently oiled myself I laid the hot wash cloth on my face to steam.  {Please use caution with the hot water.  You want it hot but not scalding.}  After my steam I rinsed the wash cloth and begin to remove the oil.  I was really surprised how nice my skin felt after.  Honestly I expected it might be kind of greasy but it was soft and clean feeling.  And I didn’t get the tight clean feeling.  So far I’ve done it morning and night since Saturday and my skin looks good and it feels nice.  I even feel like my make-up has stayed on a bit better.  Not to mention this stuff is GREAT for removing eye make up.  😉

    I’ll give a few more updates before I make my final decision but as I mentioned before as long as my skin doesn’t go crazy I’ll probably stick with this.  It a cheap and natural way to cleanse your skin.

  • High Halle!

    Get it?  HAHA!  Poor thing had her dental appointment this morning to have her teeth cleaned and possibly pulled.  I dropped her off before heading to work.  Around 10:30 I received a call from the Vet that the procedure was complete and no teeth had been extracted.

    I am very excited they didn’t have to pull any of her teeth.  One that would totally suck for her and two it’s much easier on the wallet.

    I picked her up this afternoon and she was not to happy.  Her poor little voice sounds kind of scratchy and weak.  She was very excited to be home.  And a little scared too I think.  I got her upstairs and opened the carrier to let her out and she was shaking.  I held her for a minute until she wanted to get down.  She immediately went to her food bowl and then downstairs.

    Matt and I decided to take a little nap and when I came downstairs she was up.  Poor thing, her little eyes are soo big.  She looks pretty high.  🙂  I guess she’s not quite over all the effects of the anesthesia.  I grabbed her old time friend Fuzzy in hopes he would make her feel a little better.  I’m sure she’ll be back to her grumpy old self tomorrow.

  • I’m gonna do it

    I am going to try the Oil Cleansing Method.  You can click here to check out what it’s all about.  I keep seeing this pop up around pinterest and I am dying to try it.  Basically it states that oil dissolves oil and is actually good for your skin.  I have naturally oily skin, that tends to break out some.  And to be honest I’ll try almost anything once.  🙂

    The article I linked to says to use Castor Oil and Sunflower Seed Oil but this has proved to be a challenge.  I can’t find Sunflower Seed Oil ANYWHERE!  And I don’t feel like ordering something online and then not liking it.  I’ve seen a few other articles that say to use EVOO and Castor Oil.  As luck would have it I have EVOO in the pantry and you can find Castor Oil at the drug store.  Score!  I am totally picking up some Castor Oil tomorrow.

    I did a little research and found Castor Oil has tons of uses as well.  {Clearly I will believe anything I find online. 😉 }

    I think I will do a two week test with this and see how it goes.  I will blog my progress.  And if you are lucky I will even take a few progress pics.

  • It’s been about a year

    Since I got off my anxiety meds.  I think it was around this time last year that I cut the ties and decided to face my anxiety head on.  I was thinking about what I could write and I was pretty sure I had written about stopping before.  Well lo and behold I did write a post about my anxiety about 6 or 7 months ago.  Shockingly it was pretty much exactly what I was going to say again.  {Glad I found it.}

    Anyway I’m pretty sure January is the one year mark and I must say I think I’m doing really well.  Sure I’ve had a few episodes but for the most part I rarely even think about it now.  {YAY me!}

    What really made me think of this is the doctor who helped me.  I feel like she gave me the encouragement I needed to stop or even to try to stop.  This very same doctor has also gone MIA.  I saw her a few weeks ago, she ordered some labs, and now I can’t find her.  Thankfully it was nothing too important but still, I paid for a service and she hasn’t honored her end.  I’m not sure what’s next.  I’ve never really had a doctor up and disappear.

  • I’m in love

    with dark nail polish.  I’m not sure what it is but I am in LOVE with dark nail polish lately.  I’ve gone from grayish black, to gray, to purpley black.  This comes from a girl who probably hasn’t painted her nails in YEARS!  Sure I’ve had the occasional french manicure but rarely do I ever paint my nails a color.  My toes, sure.  I love them to be colorful and fun but not on my hands.

    This all changed a few months ago.  I was painting my toes a deep gray when I decided to try it on my fingernails.  Since I had a done an okay job with the polish I decided to leave it on for a few days, just to see.  And that ya’ll, is when I fell in love with dark polish.  I will say I kind of suck at painting my nails.  This latest coat is not great, it has some small bubbles and a few chips already but it’s just so awesome.

    Every Sunday, while Matt watches football, I sit at the coffee table and repaint my nails.  Ahhh.  😉

    P.S.  Glitter polish is super awesome but a HUGE pain in the ass to remove.  Consider yourself warned.

  • I may or may not

    already have my Valentine’s day wreath on the door.  I know it’s a little early but I am really enjoying wreaths.  I made a burlap wreath a few months ago as a gift but ended up keeping it.

    I have many many plans for this wreath and I am really excited all my hard work paid off.  Burlap is kind of a pain in the ass to work with but I got some helpful pointers from a fellow crafter at Joann’s while I was buying it.  I’m glad I took her advice.  If you mist it and then clip a single string close to the bottom you can pull it out and it gives you a guideline for cutting.  It was still messy and somewhat dusty but much easier to work with.

    I found a cute heart and ribbon at Michael’s over the weekend and viola.  I have a wreath….on my door.

  • Day 1

    Of my new, fingers crossed, workout schedule.  The elliptical arrived Friday and Matt and I spent 3 hours that night putting it together.  It really wasn’t that difficult but we  read the directions and made sure we put it together correctly. 🙂  And by we I mean Matt. 😉

    Matt has never really worked out on an elliptical so I think he has been surprised that it really is a pretty good workout.  I had planned to workout when I got home today and in my head I was like “oh yeah piece of cake, I’ll just workout for half an hour.”  OK. About 5 minutes in I was like I’m not gonna make it the full half hour.  So then I set my next, more realistic goal….15 minutes.  Woo hooo!  I made that goal. 🙂

    And you know the best thing, it has a built in FAN!

  • Happy Friday the 13th!

    Just 8 short months ago on this very day Matt and I were saying our vows to one another.  Now we are husband and wife.  I think it’s kind of fitting (and a little ironic) that on our 8 monthiversary we get this….

    That my friends is my elliptical!  YAY!  Matt is currently downstairs in the process of putting this together.  I really am excited.  After the last few weeks I definitely think a little stress relief will be good.

    Love ya Matt!  Happy 8 monthiversary!
